CNBC has an article here stating:
Best Buy offers to screen LGBTQ nonprofit donations after conservative pressure, filing shows
The investor, the National Center for Public Policy Research, which describes itself as a “nonpartisan, free-market conservative think tank,” holds shares in Best Buy. The SEC released a “months-long” email exchange between the Center and Best Buy that, quite bluntly, is revolting. The Center threatened to “make a splash” about Best Buy’s support of LGBTQ+ organizations if they did not cease such support.
In a long quote from the emails, CNBC reports:
“Best Buy has partnerships with and contributes to organizations and activists that promote the practice of gender transition surgeries on minors and evangelize gender theory to minors. Why are Best Buy shareholders funding the proliferation of an ideology seeking to mutilate the reproductive organs of children before they finish puberty?” the proposal, signed by Ethan Peck, an associate at the NCPPR’s Free Enterprise Institute, states. “This contentious and vast disagreement between radical gender theory activists and the general public has nothing to do with Best Buy selling electronics.”
In an email dated Jan. 17, Peck told Best Buy’s attorneys that his organization “will withdraw its proposal if Best Buy were to end its partnerships with and contributions to” eight different LGBTQ nonprofits and initiatives, which he refers to as “predatory butchers” in his email. These groups include The Trevor Project, an LGBTQ youth suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization; SAGE, which advocates on behalf of LGBTQ elders; and GLAAD, an LGBTQ media advocacy group.
The Center specifically exempted the Human Rights Campaign (“HRC”) because “we understand that it’s unrealistic for Best Buy to leave HRC in the near future because of their political clout.”
It appears that Best Buy has continued to support the HRC but they agreed to have “screened donations … to ensure they do not advocate or support the causes or agendas you have identified as concerning. “
This is now being exposed to the public. Best Buy is responded to a request for comment on this information has responded with the standard “we are good guys and, “see, we still support the HRC”, and that support an inclusive workplace.
One more way right wing money is trying to blackmail businesses behind the scenes. They have realized calling for boycotts creates responses by concerned people that blunt the right wing efforts so they have turned to backroom deals to pressure from the shadows.
